LYNN Lucas is well known in South Tyneside as the proprietor of the Aisle Alter Hymn store.
The business, in Dean Road, South Shields, offers a wide range of services for those about to be married or enter into a civil partnerships.
What many people may be unaware of is that Lynn also manages a long-standing enterprise of an altogether different type – psychic fairs, on behalf of the medium Marion Goodfellow.
Such fairs – gatherings of mediums, clairvoyants, psychics and other types of prognosticator – have a long history throughout the British Isles.
Visitors can pay for spiritual guidance or ask for a reading, which will, hopefully, result in them walking away more confident and happy.
Lynn has been organising fairs for Marion for five years now, and, though some such events have fallen by the wayside in that time, those she arranges and promotes are more popular than ever.
"The main purpose of these fairs is to provide comfort to people," she said.
"There are a lot of people out there with problems and worries. The aim of the fair is to help them in this regard."
Marion has appeared on several TV shows and is now working on another series of the BBC's Northern Ireland's Greatest Haunts.
I asked Lynn if she had one enduring memory that highlighted the value of her psychic fairs, and she did. It was of a reading Marion once gave.
"This chap had came along with his partner, and from the outset he was extremely sceptical," recalled Lynn.
"Marion said that she had a relative of his who had died coming through to her from the spirit world.
"The man was still sceptical, but then Marion gave him specific details of how he had died and even the person's name.
"It was patently obvious that Marion could not have known by conventional means the information she was giving him.
"By the end of the reading, there were tears rolling down his cheeks. That experience changed his life."
The next psychic fair organised by Lynn will take place on Monday at the New Crown Hotel in South Shields.
The event starts at 6pm, and there is a cover charge of £2.50, payable at the door.
Reiki healer John Campbell, who has featured in this column a number of times, will be appearing, along with mediums and tarot card readers including Karen Dawson and my former colleague Anna Kaye.
Unfortunately, Marion is unable to attend this fair due to work commitments, but plans to attend following fairs in person, all being well.
Marion Goodfellow, often known as Maz, is an incredibly good medium.
I worked with her some years ago when we were filming a series called The Ghost Detectives, narrated by Tom Baker.
Her spiritual and psychic gifts impressed me then, and they still do now.
The fair at the New Crown promises to be a veritable haven for those interested in what lies beyond, so don't miss it.
