A GLOBETROTTING teenager will take a bite out of the Big Apple this summer – thanks to his employer.
Alec Jeffery, 19, works part-time for Aspire Technology Solutions, an IT services company, based at Monkton Business Park, Hebburn.

The South Shields student took the job over a year ago, in order to gain some work experience while studying for an IT degree at the University of Sunderland.

Now his boss is giving him the chance to jet off to New York this summer to gain some unique business experience.

Nigel Begg, managing director of Aspire Technology Solutions, said: "When I first met Alec, I spotted some real potential in him. He understands that many employers are impressed by prospective employees who can demonstrate a combination of practical work experience, backed up with excellent educational credentials.

"He has been a great member of the Aspire team over the past year, and I've seen him really flourish and thrive in his role as an IT consultant. So, when he mentioned that he would like to work full-time over the summer, but also travel, I decided to see if I could combine the two and give him that opportun-ity."

Mr Begg later spoke to the IT director of Brunswick Group LLC, an international corporate communications company, and an Aspire client.

After arranging a role for student Alec at Brunswick's New York office, Mr Begg has even offered to pay Alec's travel expenses to the US.

Alec said: "I'm absolutely delighted that Nigel has arranged this for me. I'm really enjoying working at Aspire, but I'm only 19 and would still like to travel and experience other cultures and work environments.

"I feel extremely lucky and grateful to Nigel and Aspire. I don't think there are many employers that would be this supportive."

Aspire Technology Solutions was launched two years ago by directors Mr Begg, Chris Fraser and Edward Patmore.

Mr Begg is a South Tyneside finalist in the 'If We Can, You Can' challenge.
