I WOULD like to express my sheer disgust regarding the MPs' expenses scandal.
Sixteen years ago I took the advice of MP Norman Tebbit, who said get on your bike and travel to obtain employment.

Since my departure from Swan Hunter in 1993, I have been based in London and have commuted to Tyneside at weekends unless being abroad due to work commitments.

During this time, I have been solely responsible for my accommodation costs in London – without the luxury of claiming for a second home.

To now read about MPs' abuse of expenses merely reinforces my long-held belief that many of them are avaricious and devoid of integrity. They should hang their heads in shame.

DE Miller,
South Shields.
