SOUTH Shields bring the curtain down on a difficult first season back in Division One of the Northern League tonight when they host Bedlington Terriers at Filtrona Park.

The Mariners finally secured their top-flight status at the weekend with a 2-2 draw at Bedlington, and will be hoping to finish the season with a flourish in the return fixture.

Boss Gary Steadman may be without goal hero and leading marksman Jonny Wightman, who scored the vital equaliser on Saturday.

Meanwhile, JARROW thumped East Durham 6-1 last night to strengthen their hopes of a top-five finish in the Wearside League.

Jarrow were 5-0 up by half-time before easing off the gas after the interval.

Lee Buglass struck a hat-trick against his old club, and Hebburn Town striker Dean Patton, brought in by boss Dave Bell to help his side out, also hit a treble.

Bell said: "We played well, and it ended up as a comfortable win."
