Well, first there were seven goals, ranging from the sublime to the downright bizarre.

No doubt, Wolves will feel more than a little hard done by, particularly by the margin of the winning scoreline.

And to be fair, it would be hard to argue with that.

Yet again, there was some questionable defending for the opposition's two goals, and then there was the ridiculous Kieran Richardson back-pass, which led to the second goal.

My own footballing experience may be limited to having played at school and local level, but even I know you never pass the ball back straight towards your own goal.

Even at schoolboy level you are told to angle the pass away from the goal, so what Richardson was thinking only he knows.

In my opinion, Craig Gordon had no option but to handle the ball, although I did hear 5 Live's Alan Green ask if the Scot should have been sent off for preventing a goal-scoring opportunity.

Still, as they say, all's well that ends well, and with the front two of Darren Bent and Kenwyne Jones in good form, we had enough to see us home.

We possess a genuine goal threat with those two up front, and the makings of a potent strike partnership certainly seem to be there.

What was pleasing about yesterday, apart from the final result, was the fact that despite not being at our best all over the field, we still had enough to grind out a victory.

The win sees us stay in eighth place – on par with a number of teams on 12 points – so only another 28 needed to secure Premier League safety!

I know everyone will be setting their sights higher than just surviving this season, but nevertheless, that is still the first priority.

Aside from yesterday's game the other real talking point over the weekend was Dwight Yorke's revelations about ex-Black Cats boss Roy Keane.

I have to say some of the tales about Keane's reign at the club were very disappointing (although sadly not surprising).

I have no reason to disbelieve what Yorke has said, and the stuff about how Keane lost the dressing room at the Stadium of Light will probably leave a sour taste in the mouths of many supporters.

Personally, I'm grateful for what Keane did for the football club, and while it ended messily, his time at the helm saw us return to the top flight and stay there.

It also helped us to get to a level where we could attract players like Bent, Lorik Cana, and John Mensah to Wearside.

Hopefully, that won't be forgotten as the recriminations start to fly.
