A HEBBURN school's first trip abroad has been hailed a huge success.
And the Year 5 and 6 children from Toner Avenue Primary got plenty out of the trip to Chateau Beaumont in north east France.

The weather may not have been great, but it couldn't dampen the spirits of those trying out the French way of life.

Headteacher Kieran Quigley said: "The frequent rain didn't dampen spirits, and pupils remained positive throughout.

"The journey itself was epic, involving a coach, a ferry port, a luxury ferry, and many miles of roads.

"Chateau Beaumont proved to be a super facility, with very helpful and positive staff.

"Many of the instructors were English, using their French language skills to earn a living – a good inspiration for our own young French learners.

"The facilities were good and the evening programme was entertaining and memorable.

"Everyone got involved in 'French Night' and dressed up – there were many striped shirts to be seen, as well as the occasional Inspector Clouseau!

"The day-time excursions and activities were stimulating and purposeful."

Teachers were thrilled as the children were praised for their behaviour in public, with staff at the Chateau and their bus driver praising them.

And it wasn't just their behaviour which was praised – the children were also complimented by a man in a trip to the market as 'the best French-speaking children, for their age', he had seen in years.
