A WELL-known face is set to widen the base of South Tyneside's business community.
Lalon Amin has just taken over the role of local community business coach with borough enterprise agency Tedco.
Mr Amin, 29, is already a familiar figure in South Tyneside, through working with groups such as the Bangladeshi organisation, Bangla Awaz.
Now he aims to use his community contacts to steer people towards successful business careers.
Tedco has pioneered community enterprise activity, inspiring local people and helping them break down the barriers to launching their own businesses.
In his new role, Mr Amin will work with disadvantaged communities and help promote enterprise.
He said: "Although there has always been an entrepreneurial culture within Asian communities, help is needed to improve integration with the established business community.
"We also need to get across to all communities that there is an excellent package of business support on offer to help people reach their goals."
Mr Amin has hit the ground running in his new role, and is already working with several people keen to break into the world of business.
His first clients include would-be entrepreneurs interested in launching a film company, a sari shop and a restaurant.
He added: "My grassroots network is strong. For example, Bangla Awaz has a 700-strong membership.
"The challenge for me is to take people with a concept and help them realise their ambitions – helping them every step of the way."
Anyone with a business idea should call Tedco on 428 3319 or e-mail Mr Amin at lamin@tedco.org
