NHS reorganisation expensive and pointless
Here’s a statistic that the ConDems are not broadcasting – £1.7bn.
That’s how much taxpayers’ money is being spent on the Tories’ pointless and damaging reorganisation of the NHS.
That money could be used to fund more doctors and nurses, as well as procuring the best and most up to date equipment and medicines.
Instead, this king’s ransom is being used to potentially bring to an end the NHS as we know it.
This despite widespread opposition from the public and healthcare experts alike, with the Royal College of General Practitioners becoming the latest professional body to call for the Government to think again.
More than 1,000 amendments have been made to the Health and Social Care Bill itself. However, the heart of the bill remains unchanged – competition is put ahead of patient care, and the wheels are being set in motion for a free market explosion within our health service.
And does the Government have a mandate for such far reaching changes to our NHS, the most respected and successful of institutions? Absolutely not!
Our NHS, for instance, easily surpasses the unjust privatised American health system, where big insurance firms call the shots and millions have no access to health care.
The most basic principle of the NHS from its inception has been that health care should be available free at the point of need. That cornerstone principle is under threat by this dangerous and unprecedented leap into the darkness under this Government.
Those of us who care about preserving one of our greatest institutions must continue to tell the ConDems loud and clear that their reforms are unjust, unwarranted and unwanted.
