Things I’ve learned this week...
THINGS I’ve learned this week:
l That spending money on the latest wonder-face cream fills you with expectation and promise.
l That it’s less thrilling to be told “but when you take it off at night, everything goes back to normal”.
l That there is a volcano effect to laundry baskets.
They sit there simmering all week, occasionally putting out the odd trail of pyjama leg, then suddenly they erupt with a lava of duvet covers, trousers, T-shirts etc.
That’s it, you know: Those more enigmatic lumps at Pompeii will be somebody’s kecks.
l That there has to be some significance to the fact that, while you can’t recall the name of the teacher who taught you French at school, you can remember – and sing along to in the kitchen while making custard – all the words to the Walkers Brothers’ hit, My Ship is Coming In.
Hmm. Middle-aged schoolmistress or Scott Walker? Now how could only one of them have stuck ...?
l That the world can only be a happier place with someone called Pokey Lafarge in it (great soul music, check him out, as the young persons say).
l That a little bit of you dies when, shopping for new shoes, you realise kitten, not killer, heels are the future.
