Adults ruin shock factor

I WAS disappointed to learn that the production of The Machine Gunners at the Customs House uses a cast of young adults, rather than children as in the novel on which the adaptation is based.

I appreciate there are difficulties in extracting pupils from schools to rehearse and perform parts.

Adults pretending to be youngsters will, for me, always lack credibility and spoil the impact of the story as intended by the author.

Imagine 11-year-old Billy Elliot played by a man.

Knowing that only adults are involved, it seems misleading that the theatre is using a photo of two boys (aged about 12) to advertise the show.
