Branley special: No way to behave

SOUTH Tyneside Council says it dismissed Allen Branley from his duties for non-attendance of any meetings for six months on June 18.

It has also stated that Mr Branley tried to resign on June 23, five days after he was sacked.

Mr Branley has put it in print that he resigned on June 17, so, in that case, there would have to be a by-election to prove a point.

It must be one hell of a point for it to justify more than 20,000 being spent on a by-election rather than on a school or the roads or anything other than an ego boost.

In his latest leaflet, Mr Branley says: "I am not sure personally whether this is the right approach".

Mr Branley also says that he and his Independent colleagues find it increasingly difficult and frustrating to properly represent voters' views in the council chamber. I would think it was near-impossible if you never go.

They have been stopped from "scrutinising council business in a civilised and objective manner", they say.

Does such a manner include one of your colleagues refusing to give way to the Mayor of South Tyneside, Coun John Anglin, at last month's meeting of the full council, forcing it to be abandoned and causing a delay on a decision to reduce council rents and bring forward 18m of Decent Homes funding?
