Court's decision sensible

I SAW your story on Monday on the proposed eviction of Patricia Tabram, the so-called cannabis gran.

A judge at Newcastle Crown Court saw fit not to evict her from her home in Northumberland over her use of cannabis.

The judge, Peter Bullock, did say she could neither supply nor cultivate the drug, however.

She and her landlord, Milecastle Housing, agreed this was a common-sense decision.

I too agree that it was a good decision. It actually flouted the law in the name of common sense and the good of everyone involved.

Milecastle Housing appears to have been reluctant to take this to court. Nobody needed this waste of time and money.

The ruling is sensible, but leaves the problem of an absence of a decent supply of cannabis for Pat.

She will be evicted if she grows her own, so she is forced to go to dealers, whose cannabis might be adulterated in all kinds of ways to make them more money.

That could even mean she ends up funding organised crime. Surely it is time to re-address our unworkable laws on the misuse of drugs. What Pat does is far from misuse of anything.
