Fast-food packaging is so wasteful
WITH increasing environmental pressure to reduce the amount of packaging in today's society, why are some fast food companies not playing ball?
Why do we still see so much in the way of burger boxes, branded paper cups and bags all around our feet?
I have recently written to the chief executive of McDonald's to ask what it is doing to decrease the number of wrapping items it uses.
The company wrote to say it would have no further communication with me on the subject. Why, I wonder?
Packaging costs it money. It takes up storage room. Fast food companies are often criticised for their packaging becoming litter on our streets.
Is it because it's a clever, subliminal form of advertising? Makes you think, doesn't it?
If so, it would be an outrageous abuse of environmental responsibility, particularly those that state in such a PR-efficient way as to how aware they are of the impact on our environment and how much they do to mitigate that.
