Keep the ban on hunting
THERE have been some people calling to bring back fox hunting, but what most people don't know is that the ban that makes this illegal also covers the killing of stags and hares.
These hunts can see animals being chased and then ripped apart by dogs.
While 75 per cent of people support the ban on fox hunting, 84 per cent back the restrictions on stag hunting and 85 per cent on hunts on hares.
Blood sport enthusiasts who call for a repeal say there has been only a handful of prosecutions under the Hunting Act.
The reality is that there has been almost 140 convictions of people under the Act, including many people brought to justice for hare coursing.
Given that this is exactly what the Hunting Act set out to ban, this is an enormous achievement.
There is no public appetite for a repeal of the Hunting Act, and I urge everyone to contact all their prospective parliamentary candidates to make their views known.
