Pleased by plans for pool
THE news that at long last a swimming pool is now being actively planned for the town is greatly pleasing.
It's even better news that the plan for the Foreshore pool is a stated priority, although it must be said too many years have been allowed to pass since Derby Street baths were demolished, leaving us without an adequate replacement.
However, be that as it may, this excellent news will be much welcomed and universally popular.
We are also informed that the proposed hotel development at Gypsies Green is now in doubt.
This will also be much welcomed by the great majority of townsfolk, as the recent petition against it demonstrated the strength of public opinion.
When we are informed of plans to develop and regenerate recreational and leisure facilities, could these not also consider the use of Gypsies Green for a covered ice skating rink?
This would be a great attraction and without doubt hugely popular.
When neighbouring towns provide such a facility for young people, it begs the question 'why can't we?'
The council would win great public favour by the provision of such development, and I hope this letter creates a public debate for support of this construction, and the idea is actively adopted by the council.
