Running to help again

I WOULD like once again to thank family and friends near and far who sponsored me in last year's Great North Run.

I was running for the Women's Cancer Detection Society at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead.

Thanks go to Sandra and Chris Procter who collected money from South Tyneside District Hospital and Wear Dock Engineering Company, Primrose Area Residents' Association, Elite Tan & Fitness, Boldon Colliery, and Margaret Bryden and friends.

I would also like to thank Ann from the Prince of Wales, Jarrow, for allowing me to do a collection in the pub.

The hardest part of the run is asking people to sponsor you, but I was delighted to be able to hand a cheque to the charity's finance secretary Brenda Gibson for 400.

This year will be my eighth in the run, and I am raising money for the same charity.

I hope I am able to raise the same again with the help of all my friends.

Sheila Thompson,

Lumley Terrace,

Jarrow.
