Think again on VAT plan
POLITICIANS should consider imposing VAT on food, children's clothes, household gas and electricity, a report from a think tank suggests, it was reported by the BBC on Friday, March 5.
Now here's the thing with think tanks – they don't work and are not economical.
They squander millions of pounds of taxpayers' money to sit in an office coming up with one or two ideas.
The exact same advice I warned of happening months before they mentioned it, but I do not get paid for it.
Their recommendation is to slap a 17.5 per cent price hike on essential purchases.
Hello, is anybody home?
People in the think tank get paid more in a week than the people this action will financially cripple make in a year.
They are hidden away in an ivory tower, nameless, faceless and shameless.
They absorb honest workers' taxes at the rate most consume biscuits.
How will single parents on income support cope? After paying for power and rent, they have little left for food and school uniforms as it is, never mind life's luxuries.
Pensioners are on an absolute pittance, some are found dead because they cannot afford to put the heating on.
Many of the OAPs that served during the war to ensure the freedom of these economists are going to be hit with increased fuel bills, clothing costs and food price rises.
Do these people have any idea of what social responsibility means?
Would they be prepared to attend every funeral of every person sentenced to almost certain death by recommending these ridiculous tax hikes that only affect the poorest of society?
Would they be willing to explain to their families why the elderly are dying and children are malnourished and sent to school in rags?
The divide between rich and poor has increased over the last 40 years, not decreased as the Government promised it would.
Install these tax hikes and the next Government may well see a true class war.
British citizens may be lethargic, but there is a tipping point and this may be the very thing that pushes people over the edge.
This time the bourgeoisie may well be caught napping by the proletariats.
My solution would be to scrap these think tanks and save millions.
Scrap politicians' inflated and expenses allowances.
Hire an axeman to sweep through the Government and councils, slashing the waste that is reported year in year out.
We can build sensibly on these points without the need to burden the very poor of our society.
If we keep social responsibility at the forefront, we cannot go wrong, something economic think tanks patently have no concept of.
