INDEPENDENT Coun Allen Branley was returned for a second spell in Westoe, with a huge majority.

He polled almost twice as many votes as the other three candidates put together in one of the strongest shows of support of the night.

The results means there will be no quick return to the town hall for Labour candidate Fay Cunningham, who only recently retired as mayor's secretary.

Full results:

Westoe
Lynne Barber (Green) - 127
Allen Glen Branley (Ind) - 1,768
Fay Cunningham (Lab) - 509
Anthony Dailly (Con) - 293

Turnout: 41.6 per cent.

Independent hold.
