Hanson holds Bede for Labour

SENIOR Labour councillor Tom Hanson comfortably hung on to his Bede ward seat in Labour's first success of the night.
He beat off a challenge from Independent candidate Kevin Lees, beating him by more than 300 votes.

Thomas Hanson (Lab) - 1,030
Kevin Lees (Ind) - 789
Ann-Marie McGourlay (BNP) - 298

Turnout: 38.4 per cent.
