COUN Joe Abbott made sure Hebburn North stayed in Lib Dem hands.
He beat his closest rival, Labour's Richie Porthouse, by nearly 500 votes, and also saw off the challenge of 18-year-old Laura Khan, who was South Tyneside's youngest-ever election candidate.
