IT was a bad night for Labour, who today have four seats fewer on South Tyneside Council than they had yesterday.
Before the May 1 local elections the make-up of the council was:

Labour - 35 councillors
Independents - 6 councillors
Progressives - 5 councillors
Lib Dems - 3 councillors
Conservative - 3 councillors
Real Independents - 2 councillors

After the May 1 vote it is:
Labour - 31 councillors
Independents - 12 councillors
Progressives - 5 councillors
Conservatives - 3 councillors
Lib Dem - 3 councillors

There are no local elections next year.
