RAUCOUS Scottish indie rockers Parka are about to release the adrenaline-fuelled anthem which will make them your favourite new band.
If you thought I Predict A Riot and Mr Brightside were killer tunes, wait 'til you hear Disco Dancer, the Glasgow band's new single, which is out next Monday.

It'll have your head in a spin and your legs bouncing faster than a spacehopper made of extra bouncy rubber, and should bring them a well-earned breakthrough.

Parka began to take shape in late 2004, when singer/songwriter Matt Thomson got fed up with his music studies at Perth College of Music, and decided to head home to Glasgow.

Music shops, the Internet and colleges were scoured for like-minded souls, and February 2005 saw the birth of Parka as a four-piece indie/electro rock outfit.

Matt and new mates Ian (bass), Mark (keys) and Neil (drums) began to put some songs together, and a year down the line were offered a split-single deal for Disco Dancer through influential tastemaker 7" label Worst Case Scenario.

Summer 2006 brought Parka to London, and as the band claimed the capital's indie clubs as their own, touring with Boy Kill Boy and The Automatic, bigger labels came calling. Jeepster won the race for their signature.

Their first proper single, If You Wanna, was a breakneck tune which filled floors at clubs the length and breadth of the country, and made No 11 in the influential indie charts.

The band spent the summer recording their forthcoming debut album with Iain Gore, who has worked with the likes of The Rumble Strips, Kid Harpoon and Blood Red Shoes.

They toured some more, with Foals, Switches and The Young Knives, picking up more followers along the way, before embarking on a nationwide tour of their own.

They did a sesssion for XFM, and, a couple of weeks before Christmas, joined Stereophonics, The Twang and Fightstar for a special XFM Winter Wonderland performance at their hometown's Carling Academy.

Now they are set to unleash a beefed-up version of Disco Dancer on the unsuspecting public, backed with new songs across 7" and CD single formats.

They have been hailed by Q magazine as one of 2008's hottest new bands, but don't take their word for it.

They appear at Insangel at Bernaccia in Newcastle on January 10 and again on February 28, with news of a full tour expected soon.
