A HARD rock band with an ever-changing line-up are set to rock a Tyneside venue to its very foundations.
Queens of the Stone Age are playing at a sold-out show at Newcastle Carling Academy on Thursday, November 29.
For a band which seems to have a revolving door policy, the only certainty is that founding member Josh Homme will be fronting them.
In their 10 years of existence, the Queens, as fans know them, have had more than 20 members.
Perhaps the most famous was Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, who played drums on their third album.
QotSA were formed in Palm Desert, California, from the ashes of stoner rock icons Kyuss.
Foos' mainman Dave Grohl declared himself a big fan, and put his own band on hold to play drums on, and then tour, the album Songs For The Deaf, one of 2002's most eagerly anticipated hard rock releases.
It didn't disappoint, and remains the high point of the group's career to date, having sold more than 900,000 copies.
As well as hooking up with side project Eagles of Death Metal, Homme found time to record another album, Lullabies to Paralyze, in 2005,
followed this year by Era Vulgaris.
Their music is often described as stoner rock, but Homme prefers 'robot rock', saying he wants to create "a heavy sound based on a solid jam, and just pound it into your head".
The current touring line-up is Homme (vocals/guitar), Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar/keyboards), Joey Castillo (drums), Michael Shuman (bass), backing and Dean Fertita (keyboards/guitar/percussion) – though, given the band's previous, there's still time for that to change!
