SOUTH Shields X Factor hopeful Joe McElderry got a taste of Hollywood glamour last night when he attended a Hollywood-style premiere.
The final eight acts from the TV talent show received the red carpet treatment at the London premiere of the new 3D Disney film A Christmas Carol.
They arrived to winter wonderland scenes, with Leicester Square transformed into a festive feast of carol singers, Christmas trees and performers adorned in Victorian clothing.
The premiere of the film, based on the novel by Charles Dickens, coincided with the big Christmas lights switch-on.
Funnyman Jim Carrey, who stars in the animated movie, turned on the lights in Oxford Street, while Colin Firth illuminated nearby Regent Street and Bob Hoskins did the honours at St Paul's Cathedral.
Bearded Carrey plays Ebeneezer Scrooge, while Firth is Fred and Hoskins Mr Fezziwig in Robert Zemeckis' film.
There was musical entertainment from acts including girl group The Saturdays, Peter Andre, Spandau Ballet and The Noisettes in the build-up to the switch-ons.
