Rhyme about time gone by
Published Date:

WHEN I look in the mirror,
what do I see?
There's a middle-aged woman
staring back at me,
Where have I gone as I look at that face,
That youthful young girl,
someone's taken her place.
There's now greying hair
that was once chestnut brown,
those sagging old breasts,
which were once firm and round.
The years have passed by.
They have gone in a flash.
Where is my youth?
It's long ago past.
Gone is the girl I once used to be.
Gone are my dreams of being set free.
I now have children. They are grown-up men.
They were wanted, they were part of my plan,
though I wish I had had them
without loving a man.
I now know where I am,
as it is my fate, to be here,
to be watching TV without even a date,
It is my choice. It's where I want to be.
Alone at this moment, I have been set free.
