A SCHEME has been in operation in Hebburn Village, in which cardboard and plastic were recycled via purple bags put in wheelie bins.
It worked fine, but we have now been informed by letter that the purple bags are to be replaced by another wheelie bin.

This area has a lot of two-storey flats with no access to the back, which means another bin will have to be left at the front of the house.

When I rang South Tyneside Council waste officer Bill McGill to say we did not want another bin – and I imagine many people feel as we do – I was informed it would have to be delivered, and then there would be an option of either not having it, having a smaller one or having none at all.

We were informed in the same letter that a roadshow would be held in Hebburn, on Wednesday, August 13, and any problems could be discussed there.

However, no roadshow was to be found. I have since been informed it was cancelled, but finding out why has been impossible.

This appears to have been a shambles from start to finish – a total waste of council tax money. Any chance of a scheme to recycle the people in charge?

Joan Hancock,
Hazelmoor,
Hebburn.
