Album review: Dan Sartain - Too Tough To Live
DAN SARTAIN ... Too Tough To Live (One Little Indian)
THIS is the sixth album by Birmingham, Alabama, native Dan Sartain, who’s best-known for his blues and rockabilly sound.
It’s a huge departure from his 2010 offering Dan Sartain lives, and can be summed up in one word: Ramones.
If you liked ‘da Brudders’ you’ll lap this up: 13 tracks lasting 19 minutes, with only one breaking the two-minute mark.
It’s good, old-fashioned, surf-inspired rock ‘n’ roll, and while there’s certainly nothing new or ground-breaking about it, Sartain carries it off well.
Highlights include opener Nam Vet, lead single Now Now Now, featuring ex-GoGo Jane Wiedlin on vocals, and F*** Friday, originally released as a 1min 30sec blast for last year’s Record Store Day. 7/10. GW
