Album review: Young Guns - Bones
YOUNG GUNS ... Bones (Live Forever).
IT’S become a cliche to tag music with phrases such as ‘stadium-sized’ and ‘arena filling’, but in the case of this Welsh trio, there’s no getting away from it.
Their intentions could barely be more obvious, with anthemic choruses, soaring riffs and big-budget production custom-built to make them massive.
Their 2010 debut All Our Kings Are Dead saw them pushing the right buttons, but this follow-up sees their catchy, fist-pumping hard rock fall well short.
These songs just don’t rock, and without the hooks of their best work, Bones is devoid of anything memorable whatsoever.
It’s a record which could still appeal to fans of bands like Lostprophets and Kids In Glass Houses, but for now at least it seems as if they’re going to have to make do with mid-sized venues. 5/10. AW
