Comic talents set for Shields dates
SHIELDS DATE ... for comic Jo Caulfield. Inset, Seymour Mace.
THE best of the borough’s comic talent will be putting smiles on the faces of South Tynesiders this autumn.
The Customs House has announced details of its latest comedy season and there’s a strong local line-up.
The shows, which are produced in association with The Grinning Idiot Comedy Club, will start on Saturday, September 17, with performances by Seymour Mace, Mick Sergeant and Andy Watson.
Jarrow-born Mace is well known for his appearances in Johnny Vegas’ BBC sitcom, Ideal, and has established himself as one of the brightest comic talents around.
South Shields star Lee Fenwick, aka Sergeant, is an unemployed Geordie shipyard worker making a massive impact on the comedy scene with his uncompromising style and razor-sharp wit.

Both acts performed at The Customs House in 2009 as part of the Joke for a Boat show, alongside Sarah Millican who performs a sold-out show at the South Shields venue on October 8.
Mock The Week star Jo Caulfield will make a special appearance in The Studio on Friday, October 28.
She will be performing her brand new show, Cruel To Be Kind – The Tour of Towns I’ve Heard Of But Never Been To.
Caulfield is also the star of Radio 4’s critically-acclaimed It’s That Jo Caulfield Again and was recently seen on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Have I Got News For You, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Best of The Comedy Store and The Apprentice – You’re Fired!
The season is rounded off with performances by Sol Bernstein, John Scott and South Shields comic John Whale on Saturday, November 12.
Customs House operations director Peter Darrant said: “I am delighted that we have secured another season of first-class comedy.
“We are attracting an exciting blend of future stars and the biggest names in comedy and it makes for some fantastic shows at the Customs House.”
