Funnygirl Sarah’s smart as a quip
PIPPED IN POLL ... South Shields funnywoman Sarah Millican.
SOUTH Tyneside comic Sarah Millican has lost out in a poll to find this year’s funniest gag.
Millican, from South Shields, was beaten by king of the one-liners Tim Vine at the Loaded Laftas comedy awards with his gag: “Conjunctivitis.com – that’s a site for sore eyes.”
Millican’s joke was: “My mother told me, you don’t have to put anything in your mouth you don’t want to. Then she made me eat broccoli, which felt like double standards.”
She was also pipped in the Funniest Woman category by Andi Osho.
Millican, who last year was crowned Queen of Comedy at the British Comedy Awards, smashed a 10-year sales record held by French and Saunders with her DVD Chatterbox Live.
Yesterday’s Laftas awards was held at the Cuckoo Club in London’s West End, and also saw awards given to big names including Alan Carr, Rob Brydon and Dom Joly.
