Annabel’s on song in Euro festival bid
RISING TALENT ... Annabel Pattinson is in the UK final of School Jam.
A TEENAGE singer from South Tyneside could soon be gracing the stage of a European music festival.
Annabel Pattinson has been making a name for herself on the local music scene for the last couple of years, even running her own live night at the Mill Tavern in Hebburn.
Tonight, the 17-year-old will be taking to the stage at London’s Garage music venue in the final of School Jam UK – a talent contest for musicians at schools and colleges across the country.
Annabel has beaten thousands of entrants to make it to the last eight in the competition, after submitting a video of one of her songs to the contest’s judging panel. The panel liked what they saw and heard, and invited her to perform in tonight’s live final, where she will play two of her songs in front of the judges.
If Annabel, a former pupil at St Joseph’s RC Comprehensive School, makes it through the final, she will go on to perform at Musik Messe in Frankfurt, Germany’s international music show.
At the festival, the winning band will be presented with a wide range of music equipment for their school or college to use.
Annabel, who studies music at Gateshead College, said: “It’s a great opportunity, and I’m looking forward to performing in London. I’m really excited to have got this far and, hopefully, I can make it through, though I’m not expecting anything.”
The promising singer, who writes her own material, has just finished recording a demo with her backing band at the Cluny in Newcastle.
She added: “It’s been hard work getting the demo done but worth it.
“I’m really looking forward to people being able to hear my new songs.”
School Jam launched in Germany in 2002 and expanded to the USA in 2009 before spreading to the UK this year.
It is sponsored by London’s Tech Music School, one of the world’s leading instrument manufacturers.
