Get ready for Ren to stir your soul
REN HARVIEU ... set to release her debut single at last.
A YOUNG singer who has made the long-list for one of music’s most coveted awards is finally set to release her debut single.
Ren Harvieu is a 21-year-old from Salford, Manchester, who is on the list of 15 hotly-tipped artists making up the BBC’s Sound of 2012 list.
Chosen by 184 UK-based tastemakers, who each named their favourite three new acts, it aims to highlight the most promising new music for the year ahead.
She will find out this week, when the top five are announced, if she will follow in the footsteps of previous winners such as Jessie J, Ellie Goulding, Little Boots, Adele, Mika, and Corinne Bailey Rae.
Just making the longlist is a huge achievement for Ren, whose debut single Through The Night is out on January 16 through Kid Gloves/Island Records.
A beautifully-orchestrated slice of classic yearning, it is taken from her forthcoming album, originally set for release last July.
Fate took a hand when she suffered a freak accident which left her with a broken back, not knowing if she would walk again.
After a miraculous recovery, she was back on her feet in three months, and is now finally ready to be unleashed on the music world.
There’s no Brit School training, no showbiz connections: she’s just a young girl with a remarkable voice and a set of songs that will stir your soul and break your heart.
She sang in local talent show Salford Superstar and attended what she calls the Primark version of a performing arts school – where she was told she couldn’t sing.
She recorded a couple of songs which her manager-to-be heard while trawling through Myspace. Realising she was a unique talent, he helped her land a deal with Island Records.
Then came the accident, but after months of operations and intensive rehabilitation, she is finally set to let the world hear and see her.
