Kasabian to round off year in style
BAND of the moment Kasabian have announced a 10-date UK arena tour to bring their phenomenal year to a spectacular close.
And, appropriately enough, it kicks off in Newcastle – their third date in the region in just six months.
They were special guests to Oasis at Sunderland's Stadium of Light last month, with a sold-out warm-up gig at Newcastle's O2 Academy the previous night.
That was in the same week their third album, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, blasted in to the charts at No 1.
They won Best Live Act at the NME Awards, and followed their stadium shows with Oasis with a momentous performance at Glastonbury at the weekend.
Now the Leicester rockers aim to round their year off with a tour which begins at the Metro Radio Arena on Tuesday, November 10.
Formed 10 years ago, their latest album sees Kasabian as a band at the peak of their powers.
Their swaggering rock, reminiscent of the Madchester era, hit the mainstream in 2004, when third single Club Foot gave them a breakthrough.
It was from their first, self-titled album, which contained songs which remain huge fan favourites to this day, such as Processed Beats, Cutt Off, and L.S.F.
The album reached No 4, and the follow-up, Empire, bettered it in 2006, making the top spot.
Based around the central figures of frontman Tom Meighan and songwriting guitarist Serge Pizzorno, the band went from strength to strength.
At the end of March they tantalised fans with a free download of new song Vlad The Impaler, whose promotional video featured The Mighty Boosh's Noel Fielding camping it up big-style as a vampire.
Fire – the first proper release – shot to No 3 – their best-ranking single to date, while album track Underdog just missed the Top 30.
Another of the album's standout tunes, Where Did All The Love Go?, is their next single on August 10, while its parent record has already sold more than 150,000 copies, just a month after release.
Tickets for the Arena gig, priced 25, go on sale at 10am on Friday (July 3) from (0844) 493 6666, or the venue's box office.
