Watch Frank Turner go in 2010
A SINGER-songwriter who has been likened to 'a latter-day Billy Bragg' has announced his biggest headline tour yet.
Rising star Frank Turner will begin the nine-day jaunt at Northumbria University in Newcastle on Monday, March 15.
Tickets, priced 12, are on sale now, and by the time the gig comes around the 27-year-old should have successfully cracked the mainstream.
Initially the vocalist of post-hardcore band Million Dead, he embarked upon a primarily acoustic-based solo career following the band's split in 2005.
To date, he has released three solo albums, a rarities compilation album and two EPs.
His new single, Poetry Of The Deed, is out now through Xtra Mile Recordings/Epitaph Records.
It is the second taken from the album of the same name, which was a Top 40 breakthrough hit when it was released in September.
An anti-folk manifesto, the song is a fast-paced statement of intent with a rousing message and catchy refrain which bolsters his growing reputation.
Previous single The Road reached the dizzying heights of being B-listed by Radio 1, 6Music and Absolute, and making the daytime playlist at XFM.
Turner had a busy summer, playing a plethora of festivals, including packed Radio 1/NME tents at Reading and Leeds.
His biggest break came when he was chosen to support American punk legends The Offspring on their huge US tour.
"Smash was one of the first punk records I ever bought, and I was blown away to even be considered for the shows," he said.
"From a career point of view, it was great – playing to many thousands of people a night across the States was an opportunity not to be sniffed at."
He also opened for The Gaslight Anthem in America and Canada, before returning to the UK in October for a sold-out full-band headline tour, and then heading to Europe.
The spring dates are the biggest venues he'll have headlined so far, and if reaction to his last tour is anything to go by, he's going to be one of the breakthrough stars of 2010.
