The recent selection of photos featuring St Wilfrid’s School pupils from over the years, marking the South Shields’ school’s 40th anniversary, has proved quite a talking point.

So much so, that I’ve sourced some more, which are featured today. But first, back to last week’s picture spread, and the one of young footballers, which Chris Young recognised.

Back in January 1989 St Wilfrid's pupils won prizes in a competition for Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive. Second year pupils pictured Stephen Brady, 12, Leigh Patterson, 13, Leon Sephenson, 13 and Andrew Buckley, 12.

Chris says: “The St Wilfrid’s Comp football photo was taken after we came runners-up in the National Five-Aside Competition, in Birmingham.

“The players are: Craig Nelson, Chris Leonard, Chris Joyce, David Kirkham, David Nevin, David Hague, Lee Paul Scroggins and Philip Peacock.”
