As promised, here’s another selection of photos featuring South Shields Boys football teams from the past.

As well as the traditional team line-up picture, we’ve unearthed photographs of youngsters being put through their paces in training as well as an action shot from a match in January 1974.

It's September 1965 and Ken Oliver can be seen receiving advice from Chief Coach Ray Snowball while other lads look on during a training session at the Cleadon Park Recreation Ground.

There’s also a head-shot of a young Shields player who we’re hoping you can identify and tell us more about.

With South Shields riding high at the moment, in league and cup competitions it is hoped that youngsters, both boys and girls, will be inspired by the local team to pull on their boots and emulate their success on the pitch at a junior level. How many of the youngsters pictured do you recognise – and watch out for more footy pictures to come.

Back in February 1968 South Shields Schoolboys Under 11 footballers were pictured in training. Mr George Gibbon is explaining to Clifford Hopwood the art of trapping the ball and Messrs Michael Byrne, Mel Hailes, Peter Millington and Mel Snowdon lend advice in Mortimer Road School games hall.
