The theme of today’s collection is pubs in both South Shields and across South Tyneside.

Some may have changed name or continued to thrive while others may not be with us any more.

Whatever their fate, we would love to know your memories of them.

Former police officer Freddie was well-known across the borough as the owner of Fietscher Fotos, in Albemarle Street, South Shields, and for taking countless pictures for the Gazette and South Tyneside Borough Council.

Daughter Julia Northam, 58, now of Billingham, is collating his work into one comprehensive archive.

Julia, a post office clerk, said: “I’m sure these pub pictures will bring back plenty of great memories to Gazette readers and I’m happy to share them with everyone through the paper.

“I left town when I was 20 although I can certainly remember visiting one or two of them myself.”

Anyone who can bolster Julia’s collection with one of her father’s photos can contact her via her Fietscher Fotos of South Shields and surrounding areas public Facebook group.

You can also email your own pub memories to Gavin Ledwith at the address above or post them on our own Facebook page.
