At one time, Jimmy Young was a chart-topping singer and one of radio’s most popular DJs.

What was the reason for Jimmy’s visit to the school?

Elsewhere in this week’s picture spread, we can see pupils from the school collecting rubbish from the Mount Pleasant Marsh, in Boldon, in 1985, and, from 12 months earlier, students posing with a mixing bowl.

Judging by the plaques in the foreground, the youngsters must have gained success in a cookery competition, are we correct?

In 1989, pupils demonstrated their computer link with West German schools to Dieter Besegn, headmaster of a school in Remscheid. What more can you tell me about the photos?
