Commuters faced delays of almost 30 minutes on the Metro this morning after a man took ill on a train heading for Sunderland.

A male passenger took ill on board a train at 7.53am at Seaburn. Paramedics were called and attended at around 8.15am and the train was back on move towards South Hylton at 8.20am.

A Metro spokesman: “Services towards Sunderland were delayed this morning after a passenger collapsed on a train and required medical attention on board before being taken off to hospital in ambulance.

“We arranged for ticket acceptance on local bus services run by Go North East and Stagecoach. Metros were delayed by about half an hour on the Sunderland line as a result of the incident.”
