ALBUM REVIEW
SHIRLEY BASSEY
The Performance (Geffen)

THE big vocal sound of Dame Shirley Bassey has been part of the British musical landscape for half a century.
But The Girl From Tiger Bay (the name of a Manic Street Preachers song specially written for the new album) still has a voice to die for, as she shows on this album of songs written for her by the likes of Gary Barlow, KT Tunstall, Rufus Wainwright and Bond composer John Barry.

This hip crossover album is being touted as a career high, and with tracks as good as the Pet Shop Boys' The Performance Of My Life, it's hard to disagree. 9/10. TK
