£1,000 of jewellery stolen in raid

BURGLARS escaped with up to £1,000 of jewellery after ransacking a South Tyneside home.
Police were called to the property in Ferndale Avenue, East Boldon, on Friday, after the owners reported the break-in between 11pm and 11.45pm.
Thieves had smashed their way into the property through an upstairs window before stealing jewellery, valued at about £1,000.
A Volkswagen van was also stolen during the raid, and later found by police.
