A NEW contract sailed into a South Tyneside yard this week.
The Skandi Achiever will undergo general repairs at A&P Tyne yard, in Hebburn.

Built last year in Norway, the vessel is a 7,617-tonne offshore diving support ship.

The multi-purpose Skandi Achiever, which is 106m long, is able to operate in virtually all sea and weather conditions, mostly in the North Sea.

Local photographer Kevin Blair snapped this picture of the vessel, as she approached the Hebburn yard this week.

David Skentelbery, managing director of A&P north east business, said: "We were awarded the contract by Dof of Norway. The Skandi Achiever will undergo general repairs, and the contract will last about a week."

Meanwhile, the Hebburn yard has just launched a £2.5m scheme to clear contaminated silt from its quays and waterfronts.

The work will enhance A&P Tyne's 'green' credentials and allow the yard to accommodate much bigger vessels.
