'Pylon cancer' fears - health statistics - special report

AFTER the Gazette called at all the homes underneath the two pylon, the following information was gathered on past and present residents:
BREAST CANCER:
A resident in her 40s was diagnosed with the disease in 2005 and survived.
A former 62-year-old resident, who grew up in the street, received treatment for the disease, within the last 18 months.

BOWEL CANCER:

A 43-year-old woman died in 1993 after a battle with both bowel and liver cancer.

Living in the shadow of the pylons

A 48-year-old man who lived in neighbouring street Keats Walk until he was 23, and played regularly under the pylons as a child, suffered from cancer of the bowel and lymph nodes in 2005. He also said three of his childhood friends who lived next to him have suffered form cancer.

BRAIN TUMOUR:
An elderly man died five years ago.

STOMACH CANCER:
Four years ago a 90-year-old man died.

EYE CANCER:
An 88-year-old resident went through treatment for eye cancer and survived.

FACIAL CANCER:
A 72-year-old woman who has lived in the street since 1963 is currently battling her third case of facial cancer.

NOSE CANCER:
A 53-year-old woman who grew up in the street, survived a cancerous tumour six years ago.


PROSTATE CANCER:

A man aged 76 who has also lived in the street since 1963, had cancer of the prostate in 2003 and survived.

THROAT CANCER:
A pensioner died five years ago.

NON-HODGKINS LYMPHOMA:
A man aged 67 died last summer.

LEUKAEMIA:
A mother aged 75, died suddenly in 2000 of leukaemia.

LIVER CANCER:
In 1991 a woman died suddenly after being diagnosed with liver cancer.

LUNG CANCER:
A 30-year-old man died of lung cancer in 1986.

STROKES:
In 1990, a 62-year-old woman had a stroke and was left with epilepsy.

A 41-year-old man had stroke when he was 17 and spent 10 days in a coma.

A 54-year-old woman died after a stroke in 1968

HEADACHES AND MIGRAINES:
A 70-year-old woman, who has lived in the street for about 45 years, says she's experienced headaches since she moved there.

One of the newer residents, a 47-year-old woman has lived in her home for about two years. She now gets frequent headaches, something which was uncommon before.

There was nobody present at approximately 10 properties.
