Ambulance involved in road accident

ONE of South Tyneside's busiest roads was partly-closed today after a crash involving a car and an ambulance.
Traffic police shut off one lane of either side of John Reid Road in South Shields at its junction with the Community Fire Station and the entrance to South Tyneside District Hospital.
The two lanes were closed following a collision between an ambulance and a Ford Fiesta at around 12.45pm.
A female driver is thought to have been injured.
The ambulance was not carrying anyone at the time of the accident.
