DISABLED people will lose out because of callous arsonists, a charity spokesman said today.

The contents of a metal container, belonging to the charity Scope, were set ablaze in Boker Lane, Boldon, on Sunday night.

The clothing bank was available for members of the public to drop off donations of clothes.

A spokesman for Scope said: "We are sorry to hear that these donations to Scope have been destroyed.

"They would have been put to good use and used to support our work to achieve disabled people's equality.

"We will be making arrangements to replace the clothing bank soon.

"But in the meantime, clothes donations can be made directly at our shops in nearby Jarrow, South Shields and Washington."

Police have launched an investigation into the arson attack.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 03456 043 043.
