Brian paws up top prize
HERE he is – our Santa Paws winner!
More than 700 Gazette readers phoned in to crown Brian the cutest creature in our festive competition.
The little guinea pig may have been the smallest entrant, but he was obviously a big hit with animal lovers – attracting more than 100 votes.
Wearing his own tiny Santa hat and scarf, bonny Brian's owners, Zoe and Chelsea Shepherd, are sure to be delighted.
He will never have to go without this year, as he has scooped a year's supply of pet food and goodies from South Tyneside-based business Pet Supermarket.
Second-placed Becks, a West Highland terrier, was just five votes behind.
We asked readers to send in pictures of their pets looking festive over the Christmas period – with some great results.
There was plenty of tinsel and Santa hats and suits – we even had dogs dressed as reindeer.
Gazette editor John Szymanski said: "We were inundated with pictures of cats, dogs, rabbits, lizards, tortoises and of course, a guinea pig.
"They all featured in the Gazette. It was great to see some of the creative outfits.
"The text vote was very close, but I'm sure our readers will be pleased with the winner."
Mark Berriman, Pet Supermarket's managing director, said: "We are delighted Brian has won our competition."
"At our warehouse you can see that we stock food, toys, treats and everything you need for all your pets, not just cats and dogs."
