A BURGLAR tried to break into a vicar's home to support his daily drug habit.
Stephen Brown smashed a pane of glass in the door of the churchman's house in Brixham Crescent, Jarrow, on February 2, Newcastle Crown Court yesterday heard.

He was arrested after a watchful neighbour had contacted police, and reported him acting suspiciously.

The 19-year-old told officers he "didn't like" the vicar and was funding a £10 to £40-a-day drug habit.

The reverend had to pay £20 to have his door fixed, the court heard.

Brown, of Etal Crescent, Jarrow, admitted attempted burglary.

Judge Beatrice Bolton adjourned sentence for Brown to be assessed for his suitability for a drug treatment order.

He was granted bail in the meantime.
