A GROUP of generous taxi drivers have donated a slice of their wages to help a special needs school raise funds for its swimming pool.

Drivers from Princess Taxis in Whiteleas, South Shields, donated £200 to Oakleigh Gardens School in Cleadon Village, to help towards a changing bed for the pool, which will help pupils get ready for swimming.

Kevin Meadows, owner of the taxi firm, said: "We do a lot of work with the school and we take the children to and from places.

"We did a collection and wanted to give the money to the school to help the children get their bed."

Oakleigh Gardens headteacher Derek Cogle said: "We are extremely grateful to the taxi drivers, and this generous donation which will help us achieve our goal of funding the new bed."
