Council chief awarded CBE
CHIEF executive of South Tyneside Council, Irene Lucas, is set to pick up a CBE at Buckingham Palace today for services to local government.
Ms Lucas was appointed to the post of borough chief executive in 2002, and has overseen major structural changes within South Tyneside Council over the last five years.
An official in local government for about 30 years, Ms Lucas has held various senior posts, including assistant chief executive with Sunderland City Council.
Her numerous public appointments have included Government nominee for sport for the northern region and a BBC adviser.
