RESIDENTS are being warned to keep their gas meters safe, after a meter theft.
The meter, encased in a plastic box, was ripped from a home in Lilac Avenue, Cleadon Park, South Shields, between 6pm on Tuesday and 8am on Wednesday.

The property was empty at the time, but neighbourhood police inspector Peter Sutton, said: "Removing a gas meter is a very dangerous thing to be doing. Not only could you blow the house up, but you could also do the same to yourself."
